Make life make sense

The aim of philosophy is to set people free; free from pressure and free from worry; free to grow, and free to be themselves.

The School of Philosophy exists to help you create sustainable happiness. For those seeking answers to life’s big questions, we share knowledge and practical tools to help you to lead a satisfying, happy life through evening, daytime or weekend classes in both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Our introductory courses in Practical Philosophy explore how philosophic wisdom, accumulated over millennia from the world’s philosophic and religious traditions, can be applied effectively in our everyday lives. Behind their rich diversity, and when put into practice, many of the great world traditions are found to display a remarkable underlying unity. It is this unity that provides the starting point for our study journey.

During the Covid-19 pandemic the London branch of the School will be running the next Practical Philosophy introductory course online for the whole of the UK and 3 of our Scottish tutors will be part of the tutor team.

Aim of the School

We are a School for self-discovery. The School studies what the great teachers of mankind have told us about the true nature of humanity, our purpose and how we might live a happy, full, and useful life.

For many years the School of Philosophy Scotland has attracted men and women of all ages and all walks of life who have wanted to simplify their lives and realise the benefits accorded by true wisdom, consciousness and joy.

Through the School, these students have found guidance that is both systematic and gentle; techniques that are simple yet effective; and the good company of others searching for truth and a methodology to apply it for the good of all.
